Al Ummah Foundation has launched an appeal to support an orphanage in Bangladesh in addition to the ongoing feed the fasting projects this Ramadan. We have undertaken responsibility in providing support for the orphanage. This orphanage needs your urgent support. Please helps us in providing educational and well-being support of the children who reside and study at the this orphanage and Madrasa.

Background:

Kamil Miah from Al Ummah Foundation visited the orphanage in March 2022 to see the day to day running of the orphanage and can confirm that the orphans who resided at the orphanage are not living under the acceptable living standards. We have now made it our mission to make sure these children get the care they deserve. The orphanage is located in Alompur, Sunamganj, Bangladesh. The orphanage specialises in Islamic/Qur’anic studies and has over 50 children studying to become Hafiz.

At present, 22 orphans reside full-time at the orphanage. Over 50 students including the 22 orphans study at this institution.

There are plans to expand and add a section for girls at the orphanage.

What difficulties are the beneficiaries experiencing?

1. The orphanage has no regular income and is facing severe financial difficulties.
2. The orphanage relies heavily on donations for day-to-day running costs.
3. Local people support with feeding orphans as and when they can.
4. There is no working kitchen and bricks have been donated to create a makeshift ‘kitchen’ to prepare food. 
5. Children often go hungry and it is affecting their concentration levels and overall performance.
6. The orphans sleep on the floor with inadequate bedding, support, warmth or comfort. They urgently need beds and warm clothes.

In summary, the management team is finding it difficult to manage rising costs and it is affecting children’s education and general wellbeing. If you look at the footage below you can see support is very much needed.

How can you support this campaign and what are the benefits for you?

Just imagine the rewards being multiplied in the last ten nights of Ramadan as you attempt to change the life of an orphan? Suffice to say, that the deeds are witnessed by the angels, and the Almighty already knows what your sincerest intentions are even before you take a step forward or utter a word…nothing else matters.  

Caring for orphans is a significant part of Islam. Orphans are mentioned 22 times in the Qur’an; their mistreatment is a serious sin, while nurturing and sponsoring them is an immensely valuable good deed.

The Prophet (saw) said, ‘The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this’, and he (saw) held his two fingers together to illustrate. [Bukhari]
