Hand water pump - Tegori, Miro Bazaar, Doshpaika, Sylhet, Bangladesh

Background

Al Ummah Foundation received a request to install a hand water pump ( tube well ) in a rural village called Tegori, Doshpaika in Biswanath, Sylhet, Bangladesh. The beneficiary had a tube well donated over 10 years ago by a local donor. This tube well is broken and is beyond repair. The installation of a replacement hand water pump was extremely important and beneficial as it would be accessed by three families, totalling around 20 people. These Families currently do not have any other means to get fresh clean water within reasonable walking distance.

The families are all very poor and do not have a steady source of income; instead, they rely on doing odd jobs and work in other people’s houses as a way of making money. The houses have been also built by donations given by local donors. The families now have to walk considerable distances to get clean water, which is hard during nights or monsoon seasons. No bathing area for women and children. Sometimes they have to resort to nearby ponds for water, which are likely to be contaminated and has high risk of diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery. And expose individuals to preventable health risk.

Outcome

The Hand Water Pump has been installed in the land of the beneficiary and is in an open area where it will be accessible to anyone that requires it, without any restriction. As a result of this project, the families can again have unlimited access to fresh clean water, for drinking, domestic use and bathing.

This whole project was donated by a generous donor as Sadaqah Jariyah for Dr Matin Uddin Ahmad. May Allah accept the donors intentions and reward the donor and their family abundantly. May Allah (SWT) grant Dr Matin Uddin Ahmad the highest place in Jannah. Ameen.
