Water is essential for life, yet millions of people around the world still don’t have access to safe drinking water. Access to safe drinking water can transform lives. The gift of a tube well will ensure families have access to clean water for drinking, washing and cooking. 

Tube wells are also known as hand water pumps or water well and are manually operated and can lift water from about 30 metres beneath the ground. They are designed to withstand the elements at least 10 years and can be easily maintained by the beneficiary. Local experts are consulted by Al Ummah Foundation volunteers for their expertise in surveying and weighing up risks prior to the careful installation of a new tube well in the proposed area which brings maximum benefit to the community by permitting easy access to the needy and their families.  Every consideration is given to the tube wells to be installed in convenient locations, often between a cluster of houses or villages, particularly in remote or rural parts of a region.

Tube wells will:

  • Prevent families from getting waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid. 
  • Reduce the need for women and girls to endanger themselves to fetch water, increasing the time they have for studying and developing their careers.
  • Empower rural communities to access water and increase agricultural activities.

Donating a hand water pump is a form of Sadaqah Jariyah for yourself or a loved one you have lost. Imagine this being provided as a gift, on a golden tray, to a loved one while they’re in their grave.

NOTE: A tube well can take up to 6-9 months to complete as in some locations they can only be constructed during certain times of the year.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).
