Background
Al Ummah Foundation received a request to install a hand water pump ( tube well ) in a rural village in Sunamganj, Bangladesh. Six families do not have easy access to clean water. Families consume water by collecting in bulk from nearby villages during the day. They resort to washing from a pond which acts as a source of bathing and household chores. The water is dirty and believed to be teeming with parasites and not safe to drink. Very likely to be contaminated, containing bacteria and other harmful chemicals.
All families are very poor and do not have the means to install a tube well and qualify for Sadaqah. Providing a Tube Well in this location is vital and will ensure that these families have unlimited free access to fresh clean water for drinking, domestic use and bathing.
Outcome
The project was completed in Aug 2022. The hand water pump has been installed on the land of the beneficiary and all six families now have access to fresh clean water. Access to clean water is fundamental to a good quality of life and the families will now benefit from this.
How has the installation of the hand-water pump benefited the recipients and wider community?
- The families will have access to fresh, safe drinking water, assist with bathing and household chores from this hand water pump.
- It will improve their health considerably.
- All members of the public and visitors will now benefit from free access to fresh drinking water sources. The beneficiaries have agreed to grant access to anyone who requires it.
