Background
Al Ummah Foundation received a request to install a hand water pump ( Tube Well ) in a rural village of Varera in the district of Balagonj which is in Sylhet, Bangladesh. The beneficiary is one of six in the family who supports the family by way of teaching and labour work. He is the sole provider for the family. At the time there was no hand water pump the family had access to. They used to use the local mosque’s facilities and a nearby pond. The mosque is not available for the female members to utilise. This caused the female members of the family to bathe with difficulty with privacy. The family are very religious and this caused them much hardship when bathing, doing the best they could to be private in an exposed area. Pond water was taken and heated but this incurred cost due to burning of wood which was expensive.
Outcome
The project was approved in Nov 2021 and completed by March 2022. The hand water pump was installed in the beneficiaries land and will be given access to all that need it. As a result of this project, the family now have unlimited access to fresh clean water, for drinking, domestic use and the much needed privacy they need for bathing.
