Hand water pump - Tathi Kuna, chattok, Sunamganj

Background

Al Ummah Foundation received a request to install a hand water pump ( tubewell ) in a rural village of Tathi kuna in Chatok, Bangladesh. Currently these families consume water from a nearby house by paying the owners. If they can’t pay, they resort to a nearby pond for water or have to travel a considerable distance when access is denied. As a result of this, the families can not always freely access clean water without having to pay which they can’t afford. Providing water well in this location will help provide freely available water to these families. Total of 4 families will benefit from this project.

The families are very poor and do not have a steady source of income; instead, they rely on doing odd jobs and work in other people’s houses as a way of making money. Providing these families with a tube well is vital as it will ensure that these families have unlimited free access to fresh, clean water for drinking, domestic use and bathing, without them having to pay for it or resort to pond water. Having a tube well will also ensure that surrounding families have easy access to water, as the families have stated they will not restrict others from accessing their tube well.

Outcome

The project was approved in Sept 2021 and completed by March 2022. The hand waterp pump has been installed in the land of the beneficiary and is in an open area where it will be accessible to anyone, without any restriction. As a result of this project, four families now have unlimited access to fresh clean water, for drinking, domestic use and bathing and would not need to walk a long distance to get access to clean water.
