Location
Purbo Raikdarha, P.O Doyamir Bazar, Osmani Nogor, Sylhet, Bangladesh
Background
9 different families with a total of 46 individuals had no direct access to clean water. They all consumed water from nearby mosque, however, the hand water pump at the mosque was not fully functional itself and was difficult to use. The village did not have any hand water pump and often, women and children had to walk miles to collect water.
Providing a hand water pump in this area helped benefit 46 individual members to have easy access to fresh clean water without needing to walk long distance, especially during nights. This has also provided the families with some much-needed private areas for women and children for bathing and carrying out domestic chores.
Outcome
Al Ummah Foundation reviewed their situation and agreed to provide a hand water pump in this area to support the families. The Board approved this project and work started in October 2019 and was fully completed by July 2020. Women and children don’t have to walk for miles to collect water now.
Alhamdulillah, a brother from Mauritius donated this hand water pump as sadaqah jariyah on behalf of his family. A personalised plaque was created accordingly.
