Winter is incredibly cold in the Rohingya camps. Their temporary shelter is made from tarpaulin sheets and bamboo and many situated on top of hills, so it can be absolutely freezing for children, new-born babies and the elderly. There is no protection against the chilly wind at night and many children can’t sleep because they were shivering throughout the night.
They have not only fled from their homes but have also seen family members being killed and their lives destroyed right in front of them. The trauma is real and unexplainable. And combined with the cold winter nights and the bleak situation of the camps that they must call ‘home’ for now.
Al Ummah foundation again teamed up with the team at Restless Beings to start a campaign to distribute 1000 winter packs for 1000 families. 1 pack costing just £12 would have provided one small Rohingya family with what they desperately needed during this period.
£12 winter pack contains:
- A large blanket
- A woven floor mat
- A unisex large shawl
- Prayer beads (tasbih)
- Prayer mat
With help of Restless Beings ground staff, Al Ummah Foundation have distributed 112 winter packs in January 2018. The total figure of 1000 winter packs were met by Restless beings and distributed to the 1000 Rohingya families.
Thank you to all whom have helped and please continue to support as the Rohingyan refugees continue to go through hardship
